computerworld.com — As a longtime Windows guy who has recently migrated to the Mac, I think I'm in a pretty good position to try and sort out reality from fiction. Let's take a look at what you can really get for your money these days.

The problem with the cost analysis and all of that is despite the differences in cost, and whatever value one may find in a Mac vs PC operating-system wise, Apple's hardware is not the cutting-edge "top-of-the-line" hardware it should be.I was going to buy a Mac Pro the day they put an 8800 or better inside. But I got tired of waiting and just went to Newegg and ordered parts and built my own for half the price of a Mac Pro.

there is some quality behind the veil: macs are very sturdy and, albeit heavy, made of good materials.

I have to say that the software I use the most is Adobe which is available on the PC and the Mac... Unfortunately I spent £400 and bought it for my PC, so there is one reason not to get a Mac... Here's the second reason, I prefer the AMD processor to the Intel Processor, and Mac's only run Intel Processor's. Third reason, I play Guild Wars and unless they've changed their minds they only support the PC, yes I have seen it running on a Mac, but guess what most are running Windows XP to play the game... I'm sorry I'm staying in the PC camp...

Maybe an hour. And I suspect you use a mac because you don't know how to do all that stuff yourself.

It just show`s that he knows nothing about mac, and i pity people who comments on somethings they thought they knew and lies just to prove a point, moreover, he`s just a gamer and knows nothing about anything but games, and he wants us to think he`s intelligent, he sucks ha! ha!.

I did a price comparison using the Apple Store website vs Dell.com.The PC was $1000 less with the same specs.Makes me question the credibility of ComputerWorld.com

been using macs since system 8.5 (1998), and windows just as long, and linux 2 years now. They're all different, and each jhave their strong points/weeknesses as has already been said elsewhere. However, the ONE thing that I think MAC's have always had that windows and linux don't, are consistant keyboard shortcuts that make sense. CMD-S to save, CMD-Q to quit, etc. Yes, I know that in the PC world, most of the time you can subsititute CTRL for CMD and accomplish the same thing, but apple's keyboard shortcuts are better because 1) they're more ergonomic ( easier to use the thumb instead of the pinky) and 2) they're cosistant throughout the MAC OS and apps. In windows CTRL-Q doesn't always quit the application, whereas in the MAC OS it does. That right here is the reason I prefer Macs over PCs. However, I don't think it's worth paying an extra $500 or so for a MAC.Just my 2 cents.Oh, and firewire target disk mode is awesome too.
