video.google.com — I put a little video together to show people who don't use Macs or what the big deal is or even if they're thinking about getting one but aren't sure because they don't know what to expect. It's 28 minutes long and covers most of the basics. I could have gone on and on for 24 hours talking about all the cool things, but I hope this satisfies.

Bet you don't know the difference between shortcut and alias (we call it link in UNIX world). If you watch the video, you'll notice alias (or link) will remain valid even if you move the original file around your file system. That's not true for Windows shortcut (or UNIX symbolic link).I was also using Windows classic (and Linux), but OS X is not just shinny. It just works, and you can disable all the shinny things if you don't like it.

To be clear, I wasn't bashing. I did indeed leave out the word "yet". I still prefer the "feel" of Windows, but they might also have to do with the fact that it is my first laptop and I need to get used to that.

Well, actually i work on both, i recently install vista build 5840 and i does exactly or better the majority of function that was deficient to windows vs mac in the past. But fanboy's always talk about visual, little feature that they don't use anyway but they are proud of them because they have it... Well... Mac have the easiest installation system ever and the Automator is a great things but the new Microsoft power shell will really kick to most of his ass and quite easily. For the installation i regret that microsoft still keep the old way but maybe in a future... But as a programmer if you ask me, os X.5 or Vista i will say Vista for sure. Because fanboy's can't just see right now what vista have under the hood and how the new presentation layer system if far superior. The .Net 3.0 and all the nasty things that msoft had to their library will make the software develloppement for this platform totally explode.....

Great video - I can honestly say I've never really played with a Mac. I'm the self proclaimed Software Jedi (www.anappaday.com), and love the way this OS looks. Vista does about 95% of what I saw (yes, including shortcut updating), but the Mac OS is still very interesting to me.I'd love a more detailed view. I'd especially love information on installing this OS on my intel core 2 duo (possible? please?).Even more so, I'd like details on developing Mac OS applications. Someone taking me up on my anappaday challenge to develop software for a Mac would kick %#@.

mpancha,I worked as a Mac Specialist at one of the stores, and frankly, out of nearly 100 coworkers, I can't think of a single one who would have been that absurd. Apple Retail employees are not by any means flaming mac-fanboys (and girls), but are in fact, as a whole, extremely bright, creative people who at some point later in life, will be doing something far more important. Apple snags talent for less because of brand loyalty, but that doesn't give them raging fanboy employees, but instead very intelligent ones.
