macworld.com— Side by side comparison of (basically) equal spec systems. The article is pro Mac, but informative either way. Based on the *updated specs & price* that the MacBook Pros are shipping with right now.

"^ AND the Dell will run these things called games. I've heard they are very popular. The Mac will just sit there and look pretty, which is pretty much all Macs are good for."THAT IS FUNNY, I AM A MAC GUY TOO. all i care for are NES and SNES games on my mac. :)
For those keeping score, the 256MB NVIDA® GeForce™ Go 7800 is a $299 upgrade on the Dell.He also included the Intel PRO/Wireless 3945 802.11a/g upgrade which is unnecessary given that the default Dell wireless does 802.11g, just like the AirPort Extreme. The Dell battery was also upgraded at a cost of $99.Dropping these options saves $425.If you want an Apple laptop, by all means get an Apple laptop. But please do not pretend that you got a bargain. You paid a premium for an exclusive product.
An Inspiron? Really? You'd have to compare something from Dell's Latitude line to get one with similar build quality to the Macbook. Inspirons are built like crap and sold to people who only read spec sheets (and the occasional price comparison article). At least the Latitudes don't flex when you type on them (full disclaimer: I have both a late-model Powerbook and a Latitude. The cognitive dissonance between my mac fanboi-ism and my style-hating practicality is unbearable)
In case anybody was wondering, here's those mythical, oh-so-hard to come by Dell coupons (exp. 3/2/06):# Use code HHX5?X$QTF2XF4 to save $650 off any $1,999.00+ Inspiron notebook.# Use code X7LZ32JSBGJ6VR to save $550 off any $1,699.00+ Inspiron notebook.# Use code ZGNFPBVQBP6QBD to save $500 off any $1,599.00+ Inspiron notebook. Being as I've shared this ultra-secret information if you use them feel free to split what you save with me. ;)
Blah, another fanboy article. The first thing I noticed was that he was trying to compare a dell with a 17" screen to a 15.4" macbook. If dell made a coreduo laptop with a 15.4" widescreen (maybe they do I didn't look) it would probably be easily $300 less.
Can someone clearly explain what iLife software encompasses?I've never really even looked into it, because the name itself is so unappealing. Telling someone you bought some 'iLife' sounds so culty and flaky.

I love how he states the Inspiron 9400 is a much better match for the MacBook Pro than the E1705 in his original article, but the two laptops are in fact one and the same. I'll pay $30 more for a Macbook pro that weights 2.4 lbs less and has iLife software. In the end, it's really Gaming vs. iLife
