engadget.com — There's not much that can be said about the 17-inch version of the MacBook Pro that hasn't already been said about the 15-incher (and to some extent, the MacBook). Still, the big, big brother of the family has a few key differences that make it stand out from the rest of the gang. The first being its non-removable battery, built out of tech which

Because when batteries pop they expand, mine grew by at least 150% thickness and didn't change at all along the other two axes. With a removable battery this will expand and the little "hatch" will pop off. In the unibody MBP the battery will expand into the chassis/bottom cover and bend/break it.

If you don't have a charger for work and for home, I would suggest you get a second one, it is so much more convenient. If you use your laptop at both work and home, then not having a charger at work wouldn't work. I have an old 17 inch MBP (from back when the 1920x1200 was an upgrade) and I love the high res screen. However, the laptop is huge, and carrying around without a dedicated bag designed for a 17 inch laptop is difficult. The laptop won't fit in either of my backpacks because it is so big. However, size and weight isn't really a concern other than putting it in a bag. I have an old IBM T30, a 14.1" laptop, that is a bit thicker than the MBP, and I have an HP dv5, which is 15" and also a lot thicker. Both of those feel bigger than the MBP, even though the MBP is actually much bigger, it's just a lot thinner.

Did you not see the analogue where I said "Imagine if they made cars, you'd have to pay hundreds of dollars and ship your car to the factory for 6 weeks every time you needed an oil change." That would be an example of something that is always "user-replaceable" not being "user-replaceable."Apple, make of the world's first $4000 laptop that you can't replace the battery on without being laptop-less for weeks. Don't like it? Why don't you call us and complain about it. What's that? Your phone is in the shop until the second week of May getting it's battery replaced? Sorry, sucka.

Glossy screens are the standard for that product. You pay more for the time it costs them to put a non-glossy one in your machine, slowing down the mass production. Simple as. Have a nice day.

@inactive, i think every mac user knows not to buy ram with apple.ontopic: I got my 17 inch today ;) with a few options like: 3,01 ghz, non-glossy screen, too bad the screen isn't edge to edge anymore zith non glossys. SSD hard drive was too expensive so I took the harddrive with 7200 rpm. With the new Snow on board it is amazing how fast the performances are. But.. there's no apple remote in the box.Now my imac has the same speed as my macbook, only difference is that my macbook has two graphic cards:D
