mactalk.com.au — The owner of a MacBook tells us of how his girlfriend, at 3am, "..said she heard it hissing like a steam valve, then smoke started pouring out of it and a couple of seconds later, a very large flash fire started. I'm sure you have read about these and seen the dell video. This is what happened to my macbook."

In this case, vapor-ware but you're being over-literal.

Apple quality at it's finest. Not to rip on them, but you would think they would be able to handle their TWO notebook lines that have identical hardware perfectly, but no, you'd be wrong. Notebooks are weird man, battery technology is lagging behind everything else right now. Desktops are the way to go.

when you put a mac in a bag you close it, which puts it to sleep. If it doesn't sleep your screen would fry so bad.

Then you are ignorant.Apple don't make the batteries.

@'tardI was under the impression that keeping it at full charge forever wasn't good for them, but your battery doesn't seem to mind.Normally you'd be best off draining it to 50% charge, removing it and storing it somewhere.

yeah, because the OS that you have makes a big diff when a battery blows up in your computer? He was talking about frickin' Windows functionality in uploading photos. Or do you mean that if he was running Windows it wouldn't have happened? Because then I really laugh at you.

I have the same problem with my macbook and googled it. I found three essential things:1) Apple's official battery recall - mine is not on the list (<a class="user" href="https://support.apple.com/macbookpro15/batteryexchange/)">https://support.apple.com/macbookpro15/batteryexchange/)</a> 2) a list of confused people with similar battery problems waiting for new batteries (<a class="user" href="http://earthlingsoft.net/ssp/blog/2006/12/macbook_charging_flicker)">http://earthlingsoft.net/ssp/blog/2006/12/macbook_charging_flicker)</a>3) and a poor Australian guy who had the same battery problem right before his macbook caught on fire . (<a class="user" href="http://mactalk.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=28926">http://mactalk.com.au/forums/showthread.php?t=28926</a> , with pics)I'm pretty scared my white macbook, bought late last june, just like the Aussie's, will go up in flames, just like the Aussie's.The symptoms:(Mine occuring in the last two weeks, the Aussie's in the last 3 weeks before fire)- Unplugged, the battery life is under an hour. (vs 3 hrs+)- Battery symbol sometimes has an X, but it would be back to a number percentage with restart.- The battery status flickering between 99% and 100% - The charger's light flickering from green to orangeNot a restart or even the so-often system updates would fix the last two.I'm scared, since Matt the Australian said the fire didnt set his fire alarm off.Since I nearly always leave my macbook on (in my bedroom in my rented apartment), on sleep mode at night.Since I carry my macbook in a sleeve in my backpack almost every day. _Imagine, NEWS: Student Walks with Macbook and Catches on Fire._Serious safety risk! Reduced battery life is expected after a year or two, but mine is less than a year old. Inconsistant recognition of the batter by the computer? Flashing lights? What? After seeing the pics at mactalk.com.au forums, I'm convinced I need to run over to Apple, immediately!Do I get a new battery or a new computer?I'll be back to post what happens next.

No laptop manufactor can stop such accident .Their need to satisfy users using new meterial and chasing more money at the cost of risk.<a class="user" href="http://applebatterypart.blogspot.com/" rel="nofollow">http://applebatterypart.blogspot.com/</a>
