I never thought about the whole "Can't watch DVDs on it". I can see one easy solution to this problem Apple could do. Mac DVD Ripper. They can load it with all the DRM they want, but at least you'd be able to rip DVDs to the 80GB HD. That would also save on battery life I imagine too. Come on Apple, you know you can do it...
- "Well, let's see. Will it be more powerful than that $1,000 Macbook I got you a few months ago?"- "Not exaaaaactly, Daddy, no. Actually its slower with a smaller hard drive, no optical drive, and less ports."- "Then f**k off, son. You're getting the iCommonsense for your birthday instead."
So the MacBook Air is a little ahead of its time. But you have to admit that the time is coming where we won't use CD's or DVD's, everything will be accessible via the internet. In that time, the MBA will flourish, and I don't think it is very far away.
Or music, or large graphic files, or movies, or downloaded games. 80GB is nothing these days. Honestly, this device makes for a perfect 2nd or 3rd laptop. It is a frivolous toy and anyone who would consider this as their first computer or laptop really doesn't use their computers like the rest of us do. Maybe they're like my mother: surfs the web, plays solitaire, answers email and pays bills.

You can't afford it if you have to lie to your wife about the cost of the thing. Sounds totally pussy whipped to me.
