joystiq.com— A real-time strategy game based in the Halo universe has been announced. The project, entitled Halo Wars, will be designed by Ensemble Studios (Age of Empires) "exclusively for Xbox 360" (read: no PC).

1. I mean it would make more sense to release for PC initially, because how many RTSs are on consoles compared to PCs..... anyone remember StarCraft64?2. I didn't say I wanted Halogen, I was pointing out that it was going to be free. But nooo, someone else has to come in and charge for it... Halo Wars would supposedly come out after Halo 3 so as not to interfere with sales or whatever right? So that would make it at least late 2007 or early 2008 I'm betting. Halogen had been in progress for a while, the team started in 2005. I just think their idea was kind of hijacked. Don't get me wrong, i know that Halo was origianlly a Mac RTS. But Bungie was bought by Microsoft and they needed a flagshp title for their box. But some people thought the idea was still cool and made a mod for it, and it got so hyped that MS wanted a piece of it. That's just my take...3. When a game is made by a different company, there's a good chance that it will suck. Like..... Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness.... suckfest. It would make more sense that Bungie - the company that created Halo - make a Halo game... And yes I know they are busy with H2PC and Halo 3. But I'm not saying they should make it right now, hell I didn't even know about it until a few minutes ago...
I don't see where you're getting your info from here. Sure, there are certainly more FPS games being made with the console in mind, but there is hardly a lack in the PC FPS area.I don't really follow the genre, but I can still easily name a few. For example, Crysis, HL2 and its various episodes, Battlefield 2, etc were all primarily PC FPS. Would it really be a bad thing if a few companies started making console RTS? It certainly wouldn't kill the PC RTS market.
Are you kidding me... u people are so naive and childish... a console is just as good as a pc for fps, u just have to waste as much of your life on console games as u already did on the pc
I wish the play would be like what is viewed in the trailers. The trailers look awesome and intriguing. But we all know the game play will be less than what we will hope for. Finally we get to see more than one Spartan fighting Covenant @$$.
It all makes sense now. They shut down halogen, and now they're maing this. I look foward to what the guys at RvB can do now with this too. Also, I think that it's cool that bungie is allowing other studios to branch out the storyline and flesh it out a bit more.
Are you kidding? I'm really preferring the console to the PC lately. A dedicated gaming platform is always better for games. Go ask any game developer.
I would agree with you but its not going to be a clone its a whole new game. It just so happens that its being made by the same studio that created Age of Empires. Just because its the same studio does not mean there going to swap out new models and graphics with the old ones and spit out a instagame like EA. Its not a clone or a mod its a completely new game.
I hope that they eventually port it to PC, even if its Vista-only crap. Let's admit it, RTSs were made for PCs. But that's not to say Ensemble can't make this a kickass game. As long as they keep it Halo- no Age of Empires- In Space!, please.
Why would they make a FPS for consoles? Everyone knows they belong in the PC?*ignores Golden Eye*fast forward a few years...Why would they make a RTS for consoles? Everyone knows they belong in the PC?*ignores Battle for Middle-Earth 2*If Ensemble gets this right, I'll forgive them for AoE3
Good point, Ensemble really screwed up Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds! Wait, it was mildly successful. Wait another second, Ensemble didn't make a game, they made a port of their AoE2 engine. But don't worry, at one point I was a fanboy of theirs - even to the point of praising AoE2 over StarCraft (please punch me in my face) but with AoE3 they proved to me my faith was unfounded. Now I see them as a company that got lucky twice in a row, and since then have been struggling to hit gold. Am I excited about Halo Wars? Hell yes, but do I have complete faith in Ensemble - no, but unless the alternative was Blizzard, they are the right guys for MS to pick.

Similar thing happened with Star Wars and its RTS game.

Especially when it's on an as PC-similar console as an Xbox...
