blogs.msdn.com— Word is a great tool for writing stuff, right? Blogging is all about communicating with words (and pictures, too). So, why not use Word to write your blog posts?

I think you need to read my post. We are trying very hard to put out clean, simple HTML. I'm not suggesting that anyone would buy Word just to blog. If that is all you need to do, then you can probably do fine with one of the basic editors. But, if you already have Word (not uncommon), then why not use the tool you have. Assuming the tool can do the job. In the past Word couldn't. Now it can.
I honestly don't think Word is the best tool in this area, specially when you just want to be concerned about what you're writing, not wasting hours trying to make things look the way you want. I wish they (MS) improved Word's layout capabilities making it easier to use. I haven't looked at the output from Word 2007 HTML yet, but if it's anything like the previous version the HTML is anything but clean.
The old HTML is still there (with some improvements). This feature uses a special HTML output that is dramatically cleaner than anything we've output before. Also, the number of features we are exposing for blogging is very scoped. Look at the UI screenshots I posted.
RTFA before you bash it. It's very clean html. There's still some work though -- I noticed a few "font" tags. But for a beta release, it's a great start.

@david: why don't you read prior comments and his post. You're lame.
