powertabs.net— The MPA has shut down the last great remaining online tablature website, powertabs.net. The website was a thriving community where musicians could share their OWN renditions of their favorite songs.

*** WARNING - PLEASE READ ***If you teach your child how to brush their teeth today, some dentist is going to shut you downIf you show your child how to put a bandage on their cut, some doctor will sue youIf you tell someone how to drive somewhere, the map companies will get youIf you inspire someone to paint a picture, the Louve in Paris will be at your doorIf you teach your teenager to drive a car, the dept of motor vehicles will be on your backIf you show your child how to shoot a gun, you will be in trouble with the MarinesAnd God forbid that if you take a picture of your wife's breast, Hugh Hefner and Larry Flint want to have a word with you....Serious here...this whole issue with tabs is B.S.. For the most part, a tab is someone's own interpetation of playing a song. A lot of tabs that I have used over the years had many errors in them. However, they served a very important part in my learning experience of the guitar and bass. The tab would get me in the general framework of the song and I would have to train my ear to learn the rest. Very few tabs were ever over 90% correct. Either way, they are an essential learning tool. The second part of my argument is that 98% + of the tabs that I have downloaded, are you ready for this? Are you sure? YOU CAN'T FIND THE SHEET MUSIC FOR THE SONG!!! So if you want to learn a B-side song from the 70's, chances are YOU WILL LEARN IT FROM A TAB AND NOT FROM SOME PUBLISHER'S SONG CATALOG. See a tab is NOT taking a publisher's sheet music and copying it and pasting it on the Internet, it is a personal interpetation of the song. I totally believe that the issue with downloading songs illegally is just that....ILLEGAL...but I honestly feel that the MPA is wrong on this issue. Here is what I suggest:Publishing companies: It is the 21st century. You need to change your business model. Offer the sheet music for every song in your catalog and make them available for download on the Internet...and yes charge people for them. I would be more than happy to pay a fee to download a 100% correct sheet music. Here's another idea...pay the tabers money to tab out songs for your company to sell. The publishing would make a hell of a lot more money if they did have a "LEGAL" tab download site with tabs for "ALL" instrument.
I'm glad I read these comments, because it made me realise that powertabs are the main resource for developing and professional musicians alike to obtain tablature/sheet music, and therefore the MPA is shooting itself in the foot, which makes me feel very slightly better about the whole issue.

f**k the MPA. Greed is all they are interested in. How does a instrament transcription have anything to do with CD sales?
