arstechnica.com — The Motion Picture Association of America has tried any number of tactics to fight piracy, but its latest scheme might actually prove useful to movie consumers on the Internet. The group is supposedly working on a new website that will offer information on how to find legit sources of movies so that users won't have to resort to copyright infringem

So, we're guessing it's a trap? I'd like to think that this might actually be a step in the right direction for the industry, but given past history, I can't help but guess that this is going to be a DRM-ridden mess that gets abandoned about 3 months in.That being said, I'm willing to indulge them, and actually give it a shot. From someone else's internet connection.

Not to mention that the MPAA is going to mess this up.Let me make some predictions: You must live in the US.You can only download to the computer you made the account on.You can not download it twice (Just activate it multiple times)You must be logged in to watch the movieYou can not copy it or move it or back it up or change hard drives or video cards or etc etc etc.Thats basically what they did on the PS3 video store... you can't download it to a separate PS3 till you disable that PS3 from playing your videos you *bought*. Can anyone with a 360 tell me if their video download service is this bad?

I remember reading Bill Gates' book "The Road Ahead" in 1995. DRM was one of the most talked about aspects in the book. He even showed off his ability to predict it when he appeared on the Daily Show (I think). Bill Gates' opinion at that time is sure to demonstrate the direction of the company.Steve Jobs has shown his willingness to continue DRM for videos: http://www.medialoper.com/hot-topics/movies/steve- ...The reason is that DRM is profitable for manufacturers and software companies because it ties media to their products and ensures continual profit. Otherwise I agree that it must go. Personally I'm holding out for Amazon MP3 to come to my country (for music) and I simply won't buy online videos.

The MPAA is aware they don't own the copyright to these movies right?... Nor do they need to be collecting "damages" in law suits. Your job MPAA is to rate movies, that's it. Oh and let's not forget you're guilty of a little bit of a piracy yourself no? ;)Roommates Online Web Series, free, unrated, and DRM free because we know what you want out of your media. Our pirate flag is raised high. Take any episode and make as many copies as you want to give to friends and family. Oh and it'll be available in multiple formats for your iPod and other media players because we listened to what you want. August 19th, worldwide premier on torrent sites everywhere.http://justiceproductionz.wordpress.com/2008/07/28 ...Support independent artists, not CEO's and board members of Sony, Paramount, oh.. *cough* I mean the MPAA.
