news.yahoo.com — This incident raises the disquieting possibility that the MPAA considers exposure to Christian themes more dangerous for children than exposure to gratuitous sex and violence," Blunt said in a letter to MPAA Chairman. After meeting with MPAA officials, Blunt said they remain concerned about the subjective nature of the ratings process.

Yeah... religion isn't the reason for the war. It's always socioeconomic or a land grab. Religion is what's used to convince the masses to give their lives for someone else's cause. Religion isn't the root of all evil... more like it's the weapon of all evil.Just as nuclear technology can be used destructively (nukes) or constructively (clean power), religion can be used both ways as well. I've also found that religion causes people to have horrible taste in music...

CDRaff, love don't hate. You can't call yourself a Christian and in the same sentence say you hate something. Christians love, not hate. In the same breath you tell us your hate is "Christianity", I think you should consult your bible for guidance. Follower of God could refer to too many religions as they all follow a God of some description.

All one has to do is look at the brutality of the 20th Century to see that religion is not the cause of inhumanity, it is merely used to legitimize bad behaviour to the masses. Hitler left the church at a very young age, and Stalin's Russia is an example of the first atheistic soceity in human history. It is not religion that causes the bad things we see in the world, it is human nature. In the same sentiment, religion is not something that should be forced upon people, but rather something people willingly choose, so I see nothing wrong with mentioning that a movie has religious content. It may be more respectful however to have it as a separate rating since our current rating system implies content that is viewed as "bad".

In NZ we had a similar controversy, well, I use that word loosely as no one really cared about it, when the Passions of the Christ came out. Anyway, there is a group called the Society for the Protection of Community Standards - which so far as can be discovered is a christian group that monitors film and TV for breaches of their moral code. Every year for the last 5 at least they have challenged legally films at the annual film festivals, demanding that their ratings either get adjusted upwards or more usually banned totally from NZ for being too violent or sexual. So when P.o.t.C was released it was given an R16 rating (viewable for people 16 and above) due to the strong violence. This group then complained and tried to get the rating lowered, because according to them the violence was OK due to it promoting a 'good' moral and religious message. So remember, if you want to make a crazy, explicit film throw in a christian theme or two to keep them happy and you will get some allies to help market your film.
