macrumors.com— MGM and United Artists movies have started appearing on Apple's iTunes Store this evening. United Artists and MGM have now joined Lionsgate, Paramount and Disney in selling movies on Apple's iTunes Store.

Really i wish that we were getting a license for the movie in whatever formats they had available. Sell the movies in HD, and if we want to put it on our iPod, have itunes go out and download the iPod version. obviously apple has both, so why do any conversion. bandwidth isn't cheap, but neither are these movies, and i seriously doubt the bandwidth used per movie download is a significant cost compared to the royalties paid to the content owner.
Take it up with the studios. Apple would like nothing better than to have only one global iTunes store, but the distribution rights don't permit it.-jcr
What are you talking about? Who do you think owns MGM... Sony and Time/Warner (pre 1986 library and license). So we can strike them off your list. And while NBC and News Corp has not yet released the movies from their library they have hit the television section of iTunes with a large library of release.
Another alternative I guess, is to just give people HD content, like an "album". Have it contain BOTH an iPod version at 320x240, as WELL as an HD version. That's probably the better solution, now that I think about it. People don't want to copy multi-GIG HD movies on their iPods simply because one-file fits all. But, that would be the simpler strategy given Apple's new Apple TV commercial. The separate download however, would probably make studios want to see more money, although Apple's been lobbying BluRay supporting studios to include an iPod version of their movie on BluRay discs anyway. I still remember that rumor.
Bond? James Bond.I'm not holding my breath for the Roger Moore/George Lazenby/Timothy Dalton/Pierce Brosnan Bond flicks. Sean Connery FTW! Although Casino Royale was pretty kick ass for an action flick, bonus for taking Bond back to the basics and having the story be the king as compared to stupid chick sex names and lame gadgets.

Sure, blame the others, it is NEVER Apple's fault. They are PERFECT!

FWIW, I've compiled virtually every significant milestone from the release of the original iTunes 1.0 back in January 2001 up through today's MGM/UA additions:http://www.systemshootouts.org/ipod_itunes_sales.htmlAlso click the "iPod Sales" and "iTunes Sales" links at the top for line graphs of each.

I wish they opened the store to all countries. They have singles from a band called Idlewild in the UK store that I can find anywhere in the US.
