In the news they mentioned that they were searching near the Black Bear Lodge area at which is at -123.7319045310275,42.65958954617269. Bear Camp Rd is at -123.7484583975781,42.57619032177936. This is where I believe they strayed off the road, there is a pretty obvious fork here. Somewhere between north of Bear Camp Rd is where I believe James is. In the valley north of of Bear Camp Rd, and south of Black Bear Lodge. After finding Kati, they followed footprints up a road headed up towards Bear Camp. He went over the side of the road into the Big Windy Creek drainage area. 2 deputies are tracking the footprints there now. -123.734614759465,42.61036279635511Latitude 42°36'37.31"N, Longitude 123°44'4.61"W is another way of writing it.
@kickstart, Sure everyone takes satellite phones along with them when visiting family for Thanksgiving. For you hindsight isn't only 20/20, it's downright goddam eagle-eyed.He stayed with the family for a whole week, and they did have minimal supplies.
TravisLWell, he left the safety of the car for a 4 hr scout in minimal clothing on Saturday at 7:30am on Saturday and its now 10pm monday....Not looking goodBUT then again it wasnt looking good for the whole family yesterday so Im hoping for a 'movie of the week' ending here with him finding shelter since Saturday and being alive and well!/Crosses fingers
Let us keep some hope! Miracles do happen. What you say makes sense, but at the same time chances of the small kids and their mother was also very small, but they made it after all.

Hmmm. Does anyone consider the possiblity they were following a GPS? I know I've followed mine into some really weird places.

What worries me is that he didn't look for the road he came off. They couldn't have been that far from it...
