bostonist.com — It appears that there is a disconnect between Google and Comcast going on right now (breaking news?). We've gotten a number of field reports from users of Comcast's cable internet service across the state who are unable to connect to Gmail, Google, and Blogspot. One of our "internet outage spotters" chronicled a tech support conversation he had in

Comcast says it's not them and other ISPs are having the issue too.

As soon as I noticed this, I immediately thought it was Comcast. I have Comcast and I am in Maryland and can not get to google.com or gmail.com. Interestingly enough I can get to google.ca. If it is Comcast making a net neutrality power play, they are pretty stupid just to block google.com and not google.ca and all the other country code domains.

Have the balls to change your isp and give com-cast a lesson!

Actually, that's not true, and you have altered their headline to alter it's meaning. The actual headline reads: "Comcast Denying Access to Google Sites in Massachusetts?"

On a side note, all you comcast users should switch your DNS servers over opendns. Go to www.opendns.org to get the info. Their DNS servers are free, reliable and even fix domain typo's and helps prevent phishing sites. Before switching the comcast dns servers in Vanc, WA seemed to hiccup all the time, since using opendns I havent seen an outage yet.

I have Comcast in Essex County Massachusetts. For most the day on Tuesday, September 27, 2006 I was not able to access Blogger for most of the day. I did not see Blogger mentioned as one of the problem sites. In this case, like others mentioned here, I did not have any problems using dial-up to access Blogger, just Comcast. I actually like Comcast much better than other large companies that I have to deal with. If someone thinks they suck, they never had AT&T provide cable service.

Ah, I was wonder what the deal was with that.

Yup, It's a DNS Recursion issue with Comcast here in Memphis. I work for a computer retail store and we have had tons of folks the past couple of days coming in with Comcast issues. Oddly enough it's only with routers though. If you plug in direct your computer is smart enough to update the DNS Server addresses which is how you find out what the DNS Server Addresses are for your local area. Comcast has DNS Recursion or something similar turned off and it isn't passing those DNS Addresses to the routers and thus you either get no internet at all or it is just plain slow. So we add in the Comcast DNS numbers into the routers and everything is golden. Comcast DNS Server Addresses for Memphis, TN...not sure if they will work in other cities68.87.68.162
