Sigh. Here we go as usual.Don't build cities in wetlands.Just had to point out the irony of your entire message considering your city was built on wetlands and has been sinking ever since. Although you cannot pick where cities are built, you can pick where you live. Although I feel sad to see what destruction befalls your city, I refuse to pity your stubbornness.
They didn't used to be flood zones. Its called erosion. Besides, if you want to bitch about that, then stop eating seafood and get ready to buy less foreign traded goods because people have to live there to operate these services.
When we voted for "tort reform", we made it harder for people to sue companies, but companies could still sue us... When we put oil men in the White House, we got a government that became lax in safety/environmental enforcement... When the Supreme Court rules to let our government to be bought and paid for... When any meager/half-assed attempt to regulate corporations is met by screams of "socialism"...What did you think was going to happen?I feel sorry for NOLA. I worry about the possibility of the NW being hit by a major earthquake or volcano, and the lack of response by government, but nearly everywhere has a problem.Jindal is an great example of the shortsightedness in politics. When he said "Instead of monitoring volcanoes, what Congress should be monitoring is the eruption of spending in Washington...", you could substitute hurricanes or oil platforms for volcanoes. Well Bobby, you got what you wanted...

fine then spend money and invest in the levies instead of blaming everyone else for not taking care of it for you.
