p2pnet.net— Fifty-eight percent of people who already own Pods said they'd be "somewhat likely" or "extremely likely" to choose a Microsoft Zune over the Apple player, or "another brand".

The sample was pretty small. Here's the original article, with more info on the polling:http://www.abiresearch.com/abiprdisplay.jsp?pressid=754So they asked 1725 adults and teens if they were likely to buy an MP3 player within the next year. Let's say 15% (likely a conservative estimate) answered positively, that bring us down to 259 people. Of those, they asked which already own an iPod. Of people who want to buy an MP3 player in the next year, but already have an iPod, let's say 10% answered positively, which brings us down to 26 people. So now we know that 58% of those remaining 26 people are "somewhat likely" or "extremely likely" to purchase a Zune as their next player. 58% of 26 is 15 people. Unfortunately, ABI combined the numbers for "somewhat likely" and "extremely likely". It could be that 10-12 of those 15 chose "somewhat likely", and just 3 people chose "extremely likely". For all we know, it could be 14 and 1... The point I'm trying to make with all this, is that by the time they've narrowed down their sample with the first couple questions, just a few people answering differently can have a big impact on the numbers. By combining "somewhat likely" and "extremely likely", the data is even less valuable. It really seems like ABI is stretching the data to try to make some sensationalist claims and drive some page hits.
The point is that zune's features outweigh the ipod's design. Not to meantion with the new 8gb ipod going for as much as a 30gb zune and a Wii (250$) when the ipod has no really descent features such as Wifi, it's obvious which is the better choice.
Who's the fanboy now? Nano is hardly smaller than a Zune? Are you insane? Wireless a compelling feature? If it supported wireless bluetooth stereo for connecting to a car stereo wirelessly or for use with wireless headphones, maybe that could have been useful... The thing is way too big, and so is the regular iPod video, which is still smaller and lighter than the Zune. Size and ease of navigation are the most important factors for me when considering a portable music player. There's no way in hell I'd consider anything that big just to listen to music on the go. If you think size and form factor are unimportant, you're in for a big surprise when the Zune fails to dethrone Apple... As an aside, I do like a lot of Apple products, but I'm no fanboy. I'm not afraid to say when they do something lame. The iTunes Store, for example, sucks ass due to the DRM...
Wifi connection via 802.11b/g is always useful when considering media devices and the amount of home networks people currently have....... Wirelessly being able to connect to the internet to transfer movies, music, and pictures, and to use zune's online store, etc.... An extremely useful feature the ipod doesn't support at all.The zune is no bigger or heavier than the regular ipod. You act like the zune is the size of freight train or something... It fits easily in a pocket, and isn't any bigger than many portable devices used today eg: ipod, palm pilot, some qwerty cell phones. And personally, I like a slightly bigger and more durable device rather than something as thin as paper I could easily lose or drop.As far as functionality.... it looks just as simple and easy to use as an ipod, and although we won't fully know how good it works until it comes out, you can't say it's worse than the ipod until you've used it.Anyways, visit zune.net to become somewhat educated on the design, features and price before trying to knock it down.
