The down side of losing 400 pounds:"The weight loss left behind great folds and bags of excess skin that had to be removed over the course of more than a year in a series of three operations. At last count, surgeons had removed some 30 pounds of excess skin, and, Smith said, he still needs one or two more operations."The up side: Getting laid?"Smith, now 32, would not say directly if he is still a virgin"
"This story proves that anyone can drop weight and change their life if they work hard enough."This story proves nothing of the sort. Obesity can be caused by a wide variety of environmental afflictions, genetic predispositions, etc - granting no ability to return to a normal weight regardless of their diet/exercise...Chronic systemic inflammation from pathogens, allergens, and other sources can cause water (weight) retention which can get pretty severe... If you can't get rid of the inflammation, you're not dropping the weight -- and even trying to do so can cause some pretty severe complications. There have been a few studies where they find this virus in most obese people vs a control group also... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/AD-36 ... There's no cure for that - fat cell multiplying virus -- so not "anyone can drop weight "..
Except that your "fact" isn't true -- the human body isn't a closed system where calorie deficiency will always translate into weight loss, which is why people trying to gain or lose weight tend to hit plateaus and whatnot. Granted, it is a nice rule of thumb but for some people it's not enough.
I personally think it's fine as long as what you're obsessive about is healthy, but, I guess some people would argue that the way weightllifters eat for instance (every 3 hours!) is something near a disorder.
Coucho: you're almost to buffville, but if you want to lose that last bit of weight it takes a higher intensity and eating more(smaller portions, but way more often. You need more protein...). Get into the habit of checking your heart rate and adjusting your cardio workout to match the ideal. When strength training, go about 3 weeks of the same workout and then a week of a less intense "recovery" phase before switching up the routine. Treat it somewhat like p90x and you'll get there. :)
Fat is more than just a physical weight. For many people it serves a purpose like creating a barrier to getting close because intimacy is too scary. Some people need the fat to act as barriers because they haven't got good emotional boundaries so the fat is a proxy. When you are psychologically strong enough to let good things in and keep bad things out then you don't need the fat to do it for you.

You could scare the s**t of out some women when they ask where you got the scars from, there's got to be 10 to 15 feet of scars on him.

You have to give this guy credit, losing 410 pounds is incredible. I guess he had a good reason though.
