The point is that all of our lofty concerns don't mean much when you put them in the context of our size and place in the Universe. It's meant to be humbling, which is the point you missed.

My mistake, but I just thought somebody was making another smart-ass religious comment on an unrelated subject. But why would I think that? That never happens around here right?@lolcoelacanth:Sorry.

I didnt miss it, i knew that was meant to be the point. For one, it was written right beneath the image. I'm just saying that a grainy image from far away doesnt create that humbling feeling for me. Think it this way - what if the Earth was the only astronomical body in the entire Universe, the only only thing. Now that wouldnt be a humbling situation. And how would this image look like in such Universe? Exactly the same. So there, image doesnt show Earth insignificane at all, it just show what i stated before: "When you look at stuff from far away, they look smaller."

I recently did a presentation involving Aliens and NASA's men in black and used this image as our napkins.

"tolerant of others at the same time"This is an argument used over and over again. There's one huge flaw with it.Some people want other people to be dead. They don't want tolerance, they don't want to be left alone, they don't want riches or power or political gains. They want you dead, and there's not necessarily a reason. How do you get rid of that?

Right, but my whole point is: inert matter does not care what "influence" you have over it. Only conscious beings care. You could blow up the whole universe and it wouldn't "care" - just all its sentient inhabitants.

I'm actually not 100% correct on this, I mean without the Sun you couldnt even see the Earth from far away, but you get the point

Whenever I see something like that, I think of this:<a class="user" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_J5rBxeTIk" rel="nofollow">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_J5rBxeTIk</a>

I love Carl Sagan. I watched "Cosmos" when I was a child... great show! I was sad when I heard he died...
