Tatum was a hard hitting, take no prisoners type of guy on the field.
As a Steelers fan, I'm just happy he didn't intercept the Immaculate Reception.

As much of a Raider/Tatum fan as I am, I just wished that he and Darryl Stingley had patched things up before they died.

Jack Tatum was the greatest hitter of all time.

After 18 years, Darryl Stingley was going to meet face-to-face with Jack Tatum, the man who ended his football career and put him in a wheelchair for life with a neck-high tackle.
Then Stingley, the former Patriots wide receiver, was told that next Tuesday's meeting with the former Oakland Raiders defensive back was a publicity stunt, not a simple reconciliation.
Stingley's agent said Tatum wanted the meeting, which was to be taped at Stingley's Chicago home for airing by Fox-TV, to promote his new book. No thanks, Stingley said.
"I'm numb now," he told The Boston Globe "I have a headache. I knew nothing about a book. They told me nobody was making money off this. I'm sick."

Glad someone wrote about this perspective. Guy might have been a great player and a good teammate, but he still seemed like a self serving assh**e. The mere fact that you try to take a guy's head off in a preseason game and he isn't even holding the ball is bad, but refusing to even say a word to the man after you paralyze him is disgusting. Hell even if he isn't sorry for the hit, couldn't he be sorry the man was paralyzed for the rest of his life?
