I'm pretty tall, and the normal MINI works very well - it has a lot of headroom front and rear, and the seats go backwards quite far to accomidate longer legs (at the expense of someone being able to sit behind you).
The Mini is a car with a slick interior, German handling and fun factor (it's designed and built by BMW, after all), without the VW reliability downside.I don't want the Toyota either, but I'm not sure how you fit that into the discussion - I'm saying I'd pass on the VW, particularly with two different Mini options available.

MINIs have a 5 star crash safety rating. In a 40mph crash test they did much better than a Ford F150 pickup.
