flickr.com — LogoMaid.com is at it again. This assembly line for cheap, non-original logos appears to have taken the new logo from SImpleBits, modified the shape slightly, and tried to pawn it off as their own. A pretty long discussion takes place on this Flickr page between designers and someone who appears to be involved with LogoMaid.

There are so many logos, so many companies. There is no way to check every single logo if it accidently "resembles" to a logo done by some local designer. I bet there are 20 logos similar to simplebits, it doesn't mean they are copied. They could accuse that guy he ripped the logo the same way he accused the logo company.

Log Maid has a contact form and one of the subjects available in the drop-down box is fraud...How ironic.

This is extremely bad advice. The best way to prove authorship in a work - and preserve all your legal rights - is to register your copyright in it. There is a charge of $45 for visual works (such as an the logo in question) and in addition to providing a nearly irrefutable date of creation, you get a valuable additional remedies under copyright law if you have to sue. Note that, if you have to sue, you'll have to register anyway, and the fee can climb to as high as $500 for an expedited registration. But if you register before any infringement occurs, you may be able to recover attorneys fees - which in a case like this, may be substantial - and additional statutory damages in the six-figure range. The envelope method, by contract, does not allow you to sue for enforcement; does not allow you to recover attorney's fees; does not allow you to recover additional statutory damages; and if it works at all, only works once - the first time you open the envelope. If you have to proceed against other infringers later, your envelope is already open and constitutes evidence of nothing.Cutting corners on registering your copyright could lead to much grief later on. It's much better to spend a little bit more money to do it right the first time, if you care at all about protecting your work.

Think about it. They need the actual products to stand out and not the logomaid logo. Makes sense?

The cube is a common element. What isn't common is a cube, in a square-ish shape, with the exact same font making up the brackets/border. All they did was change the cube to a crappy house, add a radial gradient or two, and change the colors.
