A better attack would have been having every address book in outlook email every contact with privileged, random information from a high profile client. That would pretty much destroy a lot of credibility.
@ DevilDunkardMartha Stewart went to prison for lying to investigators/obstruction of justice. A friend told her that a drug for Imclone would not get FDA approval so the stock would probably go down. She sold the stock (like just about anyone else would). The problem is that the friend was CEO for Imclone. She lied to investigators that she got insider information and then tried to bribe them with some fresh baked cookies and got busted.
Moral of the story: if you're planning on committing massive fraud, make sure you're rich enough to hire good lawyers. That's why CEOs will continue to steal millions, and in the worst case, get away with far less jail time than this bloke.Only the rich can get richer by stealing.

Um, I think that the sentence also takes into account that he had a criminal record.http://www.varbusiness.com/sections/news/breakingnews.jhtml?articleId=196602482

He'll be sitting in a Federal "Pound Me in the Ass" Penitentiary for quite a while because of this ridiculous plan.(solely to oblige scottschiller)

I bet the guy got a harsher sentence because everyone in court was calling it a "bomb" instead of a "virus" or "malicious software".
