I'd just use something like Flickr - it has a more interesting collection of photos than all of these put together.I hadn't seen Wikipedia's wallpaper page, and that's not bad.

I found <a class="user" href="http://coolpics.110mb.com">http://coolpics.110mb.com</a> has some unusual desktop wallpapers, many with free winzip packs (download all on a page in just one file) - look around though...Reading the widescreen comment above it seems that 1920x1200 seems to be the accepted widescreen resolution - it is also the same as 1600x1000 and 1280x800 - although there are some screens at 1280x880 (an extra inch or so wider)
