video.google.co.uk — I have a modest PC, yet with the power of Linux (and the open source applications which it encompasses) my desktop experience has been completely changed. I was able to run my usual slew of desktop applications, including instant messaging, Firefox, steam/counter strike under wine and desktop recording software with fusion, no slowdown. Amazing.

Try the Fedora 7 live CD. I tried it on my laptop, and Compiz worked out of the box. The laptop even has an ATI card (Radeon Mobility X600). If you have a lot of RAM (>1 GiB), you can load the entire disc into RAM and have everything run blazingly fast. You can even install additional packages like e.g. Beryl, although they will be gone when you reboot (since it is a live CD).

If you have two sound cards this might help: try setting it to use hw1 in /etc/asound.conf ..there's some stuff on google about it. Of course your sound will probably work perfectly on Gnash, because Adobe's flash stupidly uses ALSA directly.

@PuesiSome of us don't tolerate "not lightning fast". Imagine back in 95 if I had told you the spec of your current computer, you would have laughed your ass off if I told you that it would run windows "just fine, not lightning fast".

You meant to say you forgot to read the screen, started clicking around haphazardly, and inadvertently erased my hard-drive didn't you?

Small section? A smaller section are those that are competent. Generally speaking, I think everyone is incompetent.

What he said, the amount of videos of the 3d cube is frustrating. Its saturated the Linux videos tbh, in such a way that it seems the only advatage of linux is you can have a cube.Stop it!
