informationweek.com — It sounded like a wild hook for a story, to put it mildly: In 2009, it is said, Linux will ship on more PCs than Windows. So I sat down with Jim Zemlin of the Linux Foundation to explain his reasoning behind such a statement. He did, and I learned about great many other forward-looking insights for Linux in '09, too.

2009 is not going to be the year of the Linux or whatever Chinese Zodiac sign. The article is just a rehash of a combination of all other articles. It talks about Linux's dominance in netbook and how companies are working with Linux. I don't even know what criteria Linux needs to be "The Year of Linux."But what the article fail to state that with the recession Linux adoption will increase just like during the 2000 dot com bust. Or that 2009 we will see more adoption because of the recession. And I think that's a significant reason.

I don't compile or use command line to install basic programs in Ubuntu. What do I do wrong?

Dream on. Don't worry about streamlining, worry about standardizing. Quit with the 50000000 packages to do the same thing crap and choose 1 standard package for each of the core functions. You know, like choosing Pulseaudio for the standard sound subsystem instead of having 500000000 choices, that only a sparse handfull of apps even use. Then we will talk about Linux surpassing Windows.

Now if those three big companies could all pitch in on the same project and actually make an awesome distro that fit the needs of the mainstream user... THAT would be nice.

Yes, bury him for speaking the truth... that'll fix all the problems in Linux.Seriously guys, nothing is perfect.MacOSX isn't, Windows isn't, and (shocker!) Linux isn't. I mean, a friend of mine spent forever today trying to make his wireless network connection work after bringing Ubuntu 8.10 out of sleep. The internet gave plenty of ideas, but he had to dig through them all before he could get one that works.Love Linux, but it still needs help.

You so get dugg for not using a /s tag. If people don't get that it's sarcasm they should be entertaining themselves with a ball, not the internet. Sarcasm is the little-acknowledged second language of most English speakers.
