ccs.neu.edu — Interfacing older, non VGA displays to systems with VGA hardware without the help of a hardware scan converter.Almost every linux embedded project out there today uses some form of LCD text or graphics display. CRTs have been abandoned as bulky and obsolete. But not all are. Forgotten are the tiny portable b/w televisions.

While reading the article a word came to my mind: Interlaced; then, I thought about 1080i. At that point, I nearly fainted.Sigh.

Try ViewSonic VP930; That's the one I own, 19" TFT that replaced my (very good!) Nec FE750 (17" CRT) as my main display.I used to believe TFTs couldn't possibly replace CRTs, but wanted to buy one anyways since they're better for health and I spend so many hours in front of them... I was wrong. It's just a matter of careful choice, and I don't regret it at all :).

Forgot to say... it was really expensive. So if you compare quality vs cost... maybe you're better with a CRT after all.

I still love my CRTs at home and work. Sure, they are big, make a lot of heat, etc. But I need those non-native resolutions!

My father is a technical draughtsman working in a CATIA shop. They use CRTs; LCDs just aren't good enough for their work.
