I have a dream that little Linux boxes and little Windows boxes can join ethernet cables and coexist on the same network without drawing the ire of their respective fanboys.
"Can I just remind you that it's Linux and other open source software that's playing catch-up. Microsoft are the most successful software company on the planet, so why on earth would you think that they should take advice from either you or the open source world?"Microsoft is "the most successful software company in the world" for only 2 reasons...But neither has to do with thier innovation or good product: 1. They got there before Linux. If Linux had a decent GUI around the Win 3.1/Win95 days, i'm sure it would be almost as popular if not more so than Windows currently. 2. Windows has the licensing and crap to be pre-installed on almost every computer you can buy (pretty much with the exception of PC's with no OS and Macs), and it's what most people are used to."This is just your biased opinion and nothing more. Most Mac users truly believe that OS X is the best OS, and that it beats Windows and Linux in every aspect. Most Windows users also believe Windows is the best OS, and beats everything else. It's just personal opinion, everybody has one."Yes, me saying linux is better in every single aspect IS my opinion, but the truth is, Windows uses more resources just from the desktop running and with the sole exception of DirectX benchmarks, it loses everytime if put up with linux. That is NOT my opinion, that IS fact, and if you can challenge benchmarks on the same exact box (e.g., say linux won because of a fluke, or it cheated or something like that), then you're just a Windows fanboy."What lawsuits are you referring to?I would say Windows is doing a great job at beating Linux without lawsuits. Windows already owns the desktop, despite the amount of FUD that is aimed at it everyday, and despite the fact that Linux is free. And even on the server Windows is grabbing more and more market share on a monthly basis, and IMO, MS have a better product and far better tools."I'm referring to the thing where MS claimed linux infringed on 230 MS patents. Windows is in fact NOT doing a great job of beating linux currently, a large number of people i know are massively disappointed with Vista and think it's total bloated crap (i agree with them). For more of why windows appears to be beating windows, see my first paragraph of this comment. Also, a good majority of the people who know how to reformat and reinstall/partition/install an OS and don't need/want windows for gaming or work-type stuff, have gone to windows, you can't really consider Grandma a Windows user cuz XP came on her $400 Dell and she doesn't know how to reformat or even what linux is, but i'm sure she wouldn't know what Windows was either if there wasn't all the stuff that says Windows. Windows is actually LOSING market share everyday, most people are not moving TO windows, they're moving away from it. The only people moving TO Windows are new computer users. Most experienced users are moving to OS X and Linux for one reason or another and quite a few who are moving because they're fed up with Vista.
Blah blah blah... why do people care so much?Oh cool... Linux is free. Doesn't mean the people behind it aren't a company trying to make money just like Microsoft. Get over yourselves for f**ks sakes...Just enjoy life, instead of worrying about all this trivial bulls**t.
@Phocion55If anyone is playing cards it Google. All of Google's key software are proprietary, its the most hypocrite company in software today. All google is doing is using linux to undermine MS while it protects its own business. And people with half brains generally follow blindly. If I am to change my mind on Google, it will need to make its search software available for download with source code. Till then Google
