blogs.zdnet.com — The computer proletariat is rising up - and computing will never be the same. Tiny, sub-$500 ?netbooks? like the Asus Eee are the hottest thing going in notebooks today. And some surprising things are happening. Like housewives on Linux.

Dude... Don't you know the RIAA is going to sue you for that copyrighted material. (And no, they don't care how old it is.)

Knowing several Linux geeks, a few of them bought the XP version because they weren't impressed with the pre-installed Xandros OS and thought that a cheap spare XP key would be useful and then they would install something else later.Note replying with my own EEE

> Besides, these are housewives with wrinkles, liver spots and stretch marks. Unless you've spent a duration in prison, most guys with any dignity would pass them up even if they were single. In closing, f**k you.Sorry to hear you have a hideous wife. Doesnt mean that all wives are as bad.

Though Ubuntu is actually built on a Linux kernel I would hardly call it protecting. In fact, Ubuntu is one of the most security lax distros available, which is also why it is easy to use. A protecting (ie well-managed) Linux system would be something more like Suse, Debian, Gentoo, etc. And before you flame me I work on large super clusters as a scientific developer (computational fluids)..... Just my $0.02.

I don't consider gamers as geeks. All they know is games.

Apparently that's currently more true for Taiwan than for Russia. The Walmart-like shopping network that sells EeePC seems to only be selling Windows XP ones (not sure). OTOH, maybe it is the same as in the U.S. — they are unfair (EeePC was almost 10000 roubles in the beginning. Now it is over 11 and there is a discount so it is near 9400) and are hiding stuff.Yes, there is GNU/LinuxCenter and probably other retailers who sell EeePC with other OSes. Anything but Xandros is, of course, more expensive.

Sorry, my numbers are confused:In a catalogue (apparently directly in the shop), it was 9999 roubles. Now, for online ordering, it is 11999 roubles with a 2700 discount, thus 9299.

Just look up "Vice City on the Eee PC" on Youtube or Google if you want evidence. I played Warcraft 3 at a LAN party with my Eee PC. I had the slowest load times, but it still worked fine. Quite reasonable considering I didn't have to lug my desktop and monitor.
