linuxloop.com— At some point, nearly everyone who uses Linux has someone ask them ?what?s that?? This question almost invariably leads to ?why is it better than ?? What do you say when someone asks you this?

Your windows never crashes??? First off, bulls**t, that's a lie, it's crashed at least once. Second, HELL YES LINUX CRASHES A LOT. GOD DAMN. Just the other day ubuntu decided my manually installed NVIDIA drivers just aren't good enough. Installing those drivers was a week long process that i had to eventually compromise on because ubuntu refuses to remember how to use manually installed nvidia drivers after reboot. The best i could do was settle for intrepid ibex .deb package drivers (which max at 177.83 or something, when i was trying to install a 180 driver package) Oh, and if anyone here knows how to get this done, please, smugly explain it to me, because not a goddamn person on the forums can seem to figure out what's wrong. (i'm far from the only one to encounter the problem.) I use Hardy Heron.
Off the top of my head?- Less risk of viruses, malware, spyware- Avoid being burnt by proprietary software- Open source software, open standards, open formats- Performs well on older hardware- Low cost or free depending on how the software is obtained- So far has not needed to be reinstalled just to restore performance- I used cross platform software open source software. In theory I should be able to use all my favorite software no matter what OS I use.- Linux command line seems more natural to me then DOS oddly enough.- No problem so far viewing drives with various formats- Haven't had to reinstall just to regain performanceyeah, that's all i can think of off the top of my head.

Wine's pretty good too - I can't believe how well it can play my Steam games sometimes.
