reallylinux.com — One particularly distraught new Linux user came to me and shared how his meeting with a number of Linux "pros" turned to a bash Windows, bash him and bash everything he said gathering. Instead of answering his question regarding which GUI they prefer to use on their systems, the response was a clear: "you ignoramous! Go back to your Windows."

The last time I used Linux at home I had problems with it locking up. I couldn't get any help online and was accused of being a paid Microsoft troll because "Linux don't do that lock up like crappy Windows".

O.K. Here is my two cents. I think the main reason why Linux guru's getting upset with noobs is that they feel that the wind is being let out of their sail. People who came from a UNIX background and adopted linux in the beginning, always see linux as a BASH terminal (and still do). There was no x-windows or a gui. New users are seeing a fully developed desktop environment (GNOME, KDE) and no longer need to be at a prompt. I think this makes the veterans feel under-appreciated and uncomfortable with the GUI side of linux. Remember when people made the transition from DOS to Windows? Same thing.

Exactly. In modern linux distros there are usually two ways to do the same thing: Through the CLI or through the GUI, the problem is that most newbie's don't understand that the GUI is just a "friendly" interface to a CLI program behind the scenes. I am more comfortable with CLI and still stumble my way through the GUI everytime I try to show a new UBUNTU user how to do something. I think learning the CLI is an important part of understanding linux.

The 95%+ market share of Windows and Mac GUI OSes would disagree with your circle jerk.

Oh boy, the irony of Windows monkeys telling someone else to go flip burgers is almost too much for me. They do the technological equivalent, and probably have little more intellect than those that do the real thing for a living.

The inability to be played by retards like you? Damn, that's an undesirable quality right there. I shall endeavor to rid myself of it immediately.
