Here is a video of this thing playing metal slug on a neo-geo emulator which looks really good. I have the older version of the gp2x called the gp32 and I love it. If this thing is just an upgraded version of that it will be worth buying. There is already an established gp32 homebrew scene which is really looking forward to the gp2x so it will be interesting to watch. http://trimmer.dnip.net/Movie/gp2x_neocd_metalslug.wmvGood post but it looks alot like the one I made here.http://digg.com/gaming/Move_over_PSP_the_Linux_based_gpx2_hand_held_plays_games,_video,_music_

The GP2X is a great little system with a lot of potential, and I will be buying one eventually. I have had a GP32 (it's predecessor) since shortly after it was released, and I can tell you that the dev community is amazing. It may take a while for all the emulators listed above to be optimized and fully playable, but it WILL happen. The people who port emulators and create new games for the GP32 (and now GP2X) are very dedicated and inventive. As far as commercial games, the GP32 did have a couple dozen, but they were mediocre at best. Many were never translated from their native Korean, and the ones that were were translated badly. However, for an average price of ~$9, they were OK. The commercial games for the X2 are not likely to be much better, but they should be similarly inexpensive. For under $230 (with 1gb SD card), it's worth it just as a video player. The GP2X is not a perfect device, but what it does, it does well. If you're into retro gaming, writing your own games, or are a fan of "open" hardware, you should check out http://www.gp32x.com

If you hunt around (froogle) you can get a RCR-V3, which is a rechargable lithium battery pack that fits in most (but not all) dual AA battery compartments. It has a lot more battery (last space is wasted on the case) and it uses lithiums which have a high energy density. The RCR-V3 packs run $30-$65 US for a battery+charger.
