They are not all security updates. Only windows' update system is security-update-only 99% of the time. Ubuntu's updates are for the most part new software releases.
While not hacker proof, its proof of security by obscurity. Linux is under used by the masses therefore there was no readily available hacks for the build they used, and as far as this goes that is one of the advantages of having so many versions of an OS, with MAC and windows they are what they are, with Linux its unique and varied based on the hardware, OS version, and software built or placed on top. I use Linux on a daily basis and have for almost a year now, seeing what my system can do versus the windows and mac systems I work on for others on a daily basis i would say I am much more protected then any of them. Congratulations Linux!
Blah. My Linux box is hackable and I know it. I don't care because its still less likely someone's going to break in unless they're purposely hacking me.
