wfaa.com — The "default" installation of Limewire software allegedly exposes confidential files. Limewire says there is no security flaw, but the guy making the claim offers to charge $79 to uninstall Limewire for you. This is omitted from the story.

"Here we go again with the "people still use [fill in the gap]?" comments. You guys are such l33tz, it's amazing that the rest of us are allowed onto the same Internet with you."haha, I feel honored to be in their presence

@CygnusXII when I implied that I was safe on bittorrent, I am because I use proxies all over the world put up for free use, constantly switching, along with a few other methods of protecting myself from the RIAA/MPAA! And I have heard of newsgroups for file sharing but have never gotten around to trying it, I think I might try it out soon though, if you have any suggestions, or how to do it, because I have never used newsgroups before, especially for file sharing!

I don't believe it, but I don't like limewire anyways. It's a ridiculous resource hog.

Limewire's great for that quick and small pron file. But bittorrent's way better for all your feature length pron. They both provide a service, they both have flaws, neither is better just different. Does that about sum it up for everyone? What gets me is this lady being interviewed saying "I thought you got on LimeWire to share music..." Obviously she hasn't payed much attention to anything going on in the world, so it comes as no surprise she left the gates wide open.

The link requires that I register (not to post comments, but to just read it). So I'll just draw my own conclusions because I can't get to the information and say the guy lives in Nigeria and scams people out of money.

1. Uninstall Limewire2. remove all references to p2p (that limewire created during install and leaves after uninstall)3. Set you up with remote administration4. Remove the incomplete folder and the usual virus related files found inside5. Scan for virus and adware - remove allfor $80, sounds good to me.Now to address Mr. Donald's remarks. Hey Donn why wont you let me address your comments on your site? Is it because your afraid Ill reveal your little secrets? Struggling with sexual sins... I told you Donn to keep it professional but you didn't listen. Here's just a little taste, if you keep it up, you know what happens next... <a class="user" href="http://groups.google.com/group/alt.sex/browse_thread/thread/204e5fad462884c8/5e7cee415060684e?lnk=st&q=donn+edwards&rnum=7&hl=en">http://groups.google.com/group/alt.sex/browse_thread/thread/204e5fad462884c8/5e7cee415060684e?lnk=st&q=donn+edwards&rnum=7&hl=en</a>Or is it the fact that your a hack, and rip off others work and call it your own. Nice disclaimer on your site. "You cant charge clients for the application, but you can charge them for installing it" Ive wasted enough time on your sorry ass. So, back to the point. The point to the interview was to show how Limewire opens up your computer and allowed others to download files you didn't mark to be shared. Numerous articles has been written about these exploits:<a class="user" href="http://www.mp3newswire.net/stories/5002/virus.html">http://www.mp3newswire.net/stories/5002/virus.html</a><a class="user" href="http://www.kazaa.com/us/help/known_virus.htm">http://www.kazaa.com/us/help/known_virus.htm</a><a class="user" href="http://www.viruslibrary.com/virusinfo/Worm.P2P.Tanked.htm">http://www.viruslibrary.com/virusinfo/Worm.P2P.Tanked.htm</a>back in 1991 <a class="user" href="http://www.infoworld.com/articles/hn/xml/01/02/27/010227hnp2pvirus.html?0227alert">http://www.infoworld.com/articles/hn/xml/01/02/27/010227hnp2pvirus.html?0227alert</a>The list goes on and on.My point is that Limewire is not stepping up to the plate and addressing the security issues its program along with many other p2p are responsible for. We contacted Limewire, but they wouldn't address the key issues (similar to Donn Edwards) both just try to dance around the fact that their program allows huge security holes in customers computers. Instead of informing the public they choose to keep their comments to themselves and just hold on for the inevitable law suit that causes them to go belly up. Just as an example of their malicious nature just look at what happens, or should I say doesn't happen when you uninstall their program. All the registry changes remain and more importantly the folder "incomplete" still remain on your machine. This folder is a big problem in my opinion, for a number of reasons;1. What good is a have downloaded file anyway? (Sure glad I have that half of Snoop's new song.2. Virus's are programmed to trick the program into thinking its a half downloaded file so it just sits in the folder until the default 7 day are up. But if you uninstall the application, the folder and its contents remain there until you happen across them.3. Are you given a choice where to create this folder when you install the app? Are you even told its creation? no & no. To address Donn's remarks "its all the users fault. Its all due to them being careless" This may be so in some cases, but not even Donn himself leaves Limewire installed on his computer. When I took him up on his challenge he didn't have even a single file downloaded via Limewire. (Oh yea Donnie boy hows the virus doing anyway?) You see, Donn being the computer God that he is, thinks everyone on the planet should be so gifted. But the truth is that the majority of people are not computer/Internet savvy. If they were Donn would be out of business, considering the fact that his applications are so necessary <a class="user" href="http://www.worship.co.za/BlackandWhiteInc/bofh.htm">http://www.worship.co.za/BlackandWhiteInc/bofh.htm</a>Software Engineer right.I'm not here to bash Limewire, or p2p, but still am unaware of a good reason to have them installed on your machine, that is unless you don't mind the fact that sharing music, whatever way you look at it is infringing on copyright laws. Honestly, the real reason p2p applications exist are for surfing porn, ripping off songs, stealing applications, and/or gathering personal information on people for illegal use. If I'm overlooking something please let me know. Until then it will remain off my machines. As for Donn, watch out for that lion, its fixin to bite you in the ass again.Ed Chiarini

That's b*lls**t!!! The guy there is just another man who wants to discourage P2P and make a profit with it. That guy will just destroy the freedom in the internet that we have gained. The guy making the claim is just another false preacher. He always says like he is sure of that and he always attaches a heavy price tag for his [ahem] "services" [To the guy]You're not going to win, man!Anyway $79 is a ripoff! You can ask someone can do that for you w/o charge. [if you still believe that story]
