I wish 2/3 who showed up were libertarians, but IMO it was probably more like 2/3 of people who opposed the bailouts and/or Obama and/or Bush's legacy. The estimated 1/3 "red meat Palin republicans"? It's a bit odd for them to show up - Palin wanted a bailout: http://www.usnews.com/blogs/capital-commerce/2008/ ... Sarah Palin: Unfortunately, that is the road that America may find itself on. Not necessarily this, as it's been proposed, has to pass or we're gonna find ourselves in another Great Depression. But there has to be action taken, bipartisan effort?Congress not pointing fingers at this point at...one another, but finding the solution to this, taking action and being serious about the reforms on Wall Street that are needed.

A Libertarian is someone who only wants to be involved in government to the extent that they can dismantle it.

Could have fooled me, although it really sounds like they are more akin to utopians.

How many Libertarian presidents have we had? Senators? Congressmen? Governors? Hell, how many Libertarian mayors and city councilmen have we had? That party exists purely on talk radio and on blogs. They have zero power, because they can't get enough votes to get elected Dog Catcher.Prove me wrong.

Hey, professor:You should pick up the book, "Anarchy, State and Utopia" written by Robert Nozick. It is a great piece of work and might open your eyes to the concepts of libertarian philosophy.Minimal state is necessary in our society. however, an overly oppressive state can not be justified. Libertarians get a bad rap because they're not understood and the majority of the issues they associate with are espoused by those who don't understand the philosophical structure behind it. (understandably so)Even if you know where you stand politically, the reading is fascinating and complex. If you take the time, I think you will find that libertarians believe in a human's capacity to live at peace and prosper with one another. However, I am Smith's "impartial spectator" and not capable of creating ideology strong enough to persuade your "man in the breast." I only ask that you consider the real school of libertarianism and not the watered down, shock laden version.
