jaiku.com — For all of you who suffer from lack of desktop effects or compositioning! Send an email to jon.carvill@amd.com and tell him what a crappy experience ATi is compared to nVidia. We're making him a favor. Or else, we stop buying ATi. All of nvidia's cards are supported under Linux. Infact, the 7800GS was supported by linux before the official driver.

Open source is going to buy me a new nvida card, as ekso suggested? Did you even bother to read before commenting?

Shut up about this already. This is like the 200th digg on a variation of this type of crap.

No offense, but that's not exactly Linux-related. Frankly, I doubt it's even ATi-related... Either your heatsink is loose or you have a really crappy case, because personal experience tells me even Dell boxes can handle the thermals of newer high-end ATi boards.

Intel's getting into making discrete GPUs.

I wouldn't say "ever". Wait until AMD cleans up the mess. This usually takes 12 to 16 months after acquisition. Then it will take about another 6 months for them to get their act together to start making non-crap drivers. Let us hope they get their act together to bring the nVidia prices down. :-)

my letter to jon @ AMD:Please take a moment to read my take as consumers on the status of AMD/ATI.Frankly both your company's windows and Linux drivers are pathetic and work horribly. However competition in any market is something I highly support. That said I have been a very active AMD CPU purchaser/support for years working as the IT Manager/Director at a large company in the area. Their are a couple things that I would like to point out however. Linux may or may not be a large enough market for AMD/ATI to put time into. But I don't think anyone in there right mind would argue to say that Linux users aren't above average when it comes to their computer knowledge. That being the case, who do co-workers, bosses, friends, and family all turn to when considering a computer purchase? Thats right.. and again I have been an avid AMD supporter for almost 10 years. Needless to say I am an active Linux user and I have always favored NVidia GPU's and AMD CPU's.Up until a year ago I had never bought an ATI product because of there bad Linux PR, although with the AMD/ATI merge happening at the time I bit the bullet and hopped for the best. Now a year later I am equally frustrated with the windows and linux drivers for my first and only ATI card. Since last years purchase I have switched to purchasing strictly Intel and NVidia systems at both work and home and I will also be recommending this combination for any business contacts, family and friends. Thanks for your time and I wish the best of luck to your company, (my name here)Reference: * http://jaiku.com/channel/twit/presence/6638800 * http://digg.com/linux_unix/Let_s_convince_ATi_to_make_quality_drivers_or_open_source_them
