wfaa.com — Parents protesting the school's decision to disallow participation in the graduation ceremony for those who failed the necessary standardized tests shed a little light on why they are in this predicament to begin with. Not the best protest sign in this case.

Since everyone seems to be in agreement that not knowing the difference between "our" and "are" is wholly pathetic, I think we should also declare it unacceptable that a good number of people who post on digg do not know the difference between "then" and "than".

seriously... i got a 3.7 and graduated just a few kids above the halfway mark. 3.5!?! let you're kids stay in school for a couple more years, that mite help them.
hatecrew664May 26, 2007
How on earth do you have a 3.5 and fail the TAKS. I passed all of my TAKS test easily.

I wouldn't say that it's worthless. I'd say that it is less damning to be a drop out now than it was 20-30 years ago because we have so many viable options: the GED, Community College, Universities. The community college I went to has a transfer agreement with UCSD that basically states if a student meets a certain set of academic requirements thesy are guaranteed admission, no SAT's required.I did miss out on some experiences like team sports and dances, but that stuff wasn't really my thing anyway. What I'm really bummed about about was not getting to take shop classes or auto mechanics or any of the other interesting trade classes my high school offered.

If you don't pass the test you have failed to meet all the requirements to graduate with your friends who did pass. What is so complicated?

Back in 1994, Newt Gingrich correctly pointed out that the liberal education system will remain broken as long as the NEA is allowed to exert control over our schools. His solution was to disband the NEA, and return accountability back to the state level. This would give local people the ability to remove incapaple educators, principles. and entire school boards if need be. My personal preferrence is to let parents get school vouchers if the schools in their district aren't doing their jobs. I won't make this political but I do suggest you do some research to find which party supports the status quo.
