nzherald.co.nz — Australia may not be able to handle the truth -- Female koalas indulge in lesbian "sex sessions", rejecting male suitors and attempting to mate with each other, sometimes up to five at a time, according to researchers.

It's not that I dislike gay Koalas... I just don't want them moving in next door and inviting over my kids. Know what I mean? I'm definitely not a discrimination or anything! *nervous laugh*

Maybe Ted Haggard can help those koalas learn to be hetero again? And get them off the meth at the same time!

Ok so this happens with Koalas. Just like with any other animal, including human. I mean have you ever seen what happens in a herd of cows when one of them is in heat? That's right, every other cow tries to hump her, somehow hoping to penetrate her with their udder.Just leave it be and let koalas, cows and big hairy men be gay however much they want to.

exactly, the dogs needs to show the other which is superior. also, dogs will even lay theirselves on your feet or whatever to show dominance as well. this isn't from the dog whisperer, this is general dog knowledge. talk to any dog trainer.

First of all, the difference between the captive and wild koalas is not whether they are "gay" or "straight", it's what proportion of homo and heterosexual sex they have. The "gay" captive koalas still have plenty of heterosexual sex, and vice versa. But more importantly, there is certainly no "gay gene". It is possible that some elements of their captive environment causes their preference of homosexual sex, but to suggest that it is an evolutionary process that has caused it is absurd. The evolutionary process takes many generations to produce slight changes, and the time we have been holding koalas captive for is not nearly enough to produce such a change.I personally don't believe behaviour is greatly affected by genetics anyway, but that is a separate argument.

I ridiculed listening to the Dog Whisperer and you responded by saying, "just ask any dog trainer." That's a bit ironic, no? But I digress. The point is... not all mounting behavior in animals is about dominance. Dogs will hump inanimate objects. Couches, pillows, shoes. There's no reason for dogs to "dominate" those objects. Dolphins have sex for "fun." Various species of monkey and chimp do it do strengthen social bonds. You obviously have been told by someone of questionable "authority," probably another dog owner or a dog trainer like the Dog Whisperer, that humping is about dominance and you're regurgitating it as fact. Yes, sometimes your dog is doing it as a dominance behavior. But, that DOESN'T mean that explanation applies to all mounting behavior, even in dogs.

My word, the dingos are not going to like this. They aren't the only thing koala's will munch on now. Check out the videos here. http://liplock.org
