gd.tuwien.ac.at— You have Linux installed and running. The GUI is working fine, but you are getting tired of changing your desktop themes. You keep seeing this "terminal" thing. Don't worry, we'll show you what to do.

I recently started using Ubuntu Linux. LinuxCommand.org was a huge help getting me started with the command line tools. It is an excellent resource. This is my first submitted story! :)
"That's fine until you have to modify your .bash_profile and need the changes to take effect"I believe you can use the command "source" to do thatsource bashrc
This is a great article, I've tried ubuntu before but disliked it because the graphic drivers didn't work right (ATI), and because it just seemed like a clunkier version of windows. I work with linux servers occasionally now, but all I know to do is bittorrent related stuff. I'm probably going to give Ubuntu another try now.
What's the best way to do word processing from the shell? Antiword? Lyx? Perl scripts? I can do every other GUI task from the shell, and am ready to try word processing. The objective would be to format text files for printing the sort of heavily formatted documents that would be filed in Court or made into a masters thesis. Has anyone solved this problem already?

Same here, although I need X for games and Firefox. And its best use, of course: making room for more xterms.

"The sbin directories contain programs for system administration, mostly for use by the superuser." - <a class="user" href="http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/linuxcommand.org/lts0040.php">http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/linuxcommand.org/lts0040.php</a>Now I get it. For some reason I thought it mean secure bin.
