ibm.com — The best systems administrators are set apart by their efficiency. And if an efficient systems administrator can do a task in 10 minutes that would take another mortal two hours to complete, then the efficient systems administrator should be rewarded (paid more) because the company is saving time, and time is money, right?

I wish I would get the chance to use Linux more often but my servers never go down. Besides some software/security updates every month I forget about it. I feel like the Maytag man some days.

Uhm, it's nothing Digg's doing. It's people ignoring the dupe checker.

dmidecode is great. It can tell you everything -- which of your memory banks are open (great if you don't want to shut down a running server, but you want to see if you can upgrade it), serial numbers, part numbers...If you need to id some hardware in your system, it's actually a *lot* easier to run dmidecode than it is to try and crack the case open and read part numbers on chips/PCBs.Especially if you're SSHing into the system from thousands of miles away...
