gizmodo.com — Not even 24 hours after the release of the latest update for the iPhone firmware 1.2.0 (or 2.0, as The Steve calls it,) the iPhone Dev Team sent us this picture showing that they have again pwned it, confirming what they already said: it's going to be extremely difficult for Apple to relock the iPhone. Check the new separate Contact application.

The simple answer is that you don't have to sign an AT&T contract to purchase an iPhone. Also:Unlocking - Allows you to use the phone on any GSM networkJailbreaking - Allows you to run 3rd party appsJailbreaking does not require an unlocked phone.

Let's be fair. The 6600 runs a ARM 11 369 MHz processor, with 128 MB SDRAM memory. Even with a 2.2" (240x320) non-touch screen, it has a 3.5 hr battery life. It comes with 120MB flash built in, and runs Symbian OS. Also, after looking at both the link you sent, and a spec sheet, it does NOT offer Wi-Fi, which in any decent network, has speeds much higher than 3G.The iPhone has a 620 MHz ARM 1176, 128 MB DRAM and 8-16GB of built in memory. It has built in Wi-Fi, and an arguably superior OS to Symbian. Also, in addition to touch functionality, it has several gyro, distance and light based sensors to drive additional functionality. It has a 3.0" screen (320x480), as well. The iPhone also has a PowerVR MBX 3D graphics co-processor, of which the 6220 sports no such alternative. Sure, the 6600 does have features that the iPhone doesn't, namely a 5MP camera (Of course, let's remember that MP is probably 5th on the list for important factors in a digital camera), a "xenon" flash (that probably destroys your battery -- let's be honest here), and some software functionality.Despite having a smaller screen, the battery life is significantly less for talk time, and they don't post video, internet browsing and flash using battery times. The iPhone has a 24 hour audio play back, 8 hour talk time (almost triple that of the 6220) and 7 hours of video play back time. It should also be noted that the iPhone uses a 3.5mm audio input jack while the Nokia uses a 2.5mm input jack.Yes, the 6220 does have a bunch of nice features, such as a high quality camera and 3G connectivity. However, it sports a much weaker battery, no wi-fi connection, a smaller screen, a much slower processor, and no dedicated 3D graphics processor. They are both, undoubtably good phones, but I still maintain that the iPhone without a 5MP camera and 3G is a better phone. That is of course, a matter of opinion.

I've used the 8525. Runs circles around an iPhone. Hardly. The WM OS is a terrible operating system. The touch functionality is inaccurate at best. The OS is confusing, laggy and attempts to be too similar to the desktop interface to realize that we don't need Windows XP on a phone. As for "limited SDK", please show me where Windows Mobile offers a full development environment, with on-phone testing tools, phone OS simulation for on-computer testing tools, unified app delivery scheme and free distribution or cheap sale of programs.

Wow...Too powerful? Try again. I HAVE OSX on my phone, but you know what?Apple decided not to replicate the full OSX GUI on a 3" screen. They said, "well hey, this is a mobile device so it doesn't need menu systems, a start bar and a task bar. Instead of rehashing multi-decade old gui elements on a tiny device, we're going to scrap the conventional GUI, and start from scratch!" What they created was unarguably the best mobile gui in existance. You can't argue that, because men much smarter and qualified than you have said this. However, Windows Mobile, in true Microsoft fashion, said "Hey, let's take the Windows XP desktop into photoshop, and resize it to 240x320. Okay! Looks good! Clean it up a bit and we have a cell phone interface!" Undoubtably new versions of WM will be improved based on the ideas presented in the iPhone OS.As for a $500 expense that locks me out? I currently code and run anything I want on my phone. I play games that I've downloaded, including a nice little physics simulator. I have an NES emulator and dabble with mario. I have a SCUMM emulator and I still love Curse of Monkey Island. I haven't played with the PS1 emulator, but I've seen it in action and that's pretty bad ass. Most importantly, I have, bar none, the best mobile browser ever invented. A mobile browser so powerful is makes mobile opera and mobile IE look decades old. There is no broswer that compares -- period. But hey, keep hating the iPhone. Keep justifying your $500 Windows Mobile phone by an unfounded, virulent hate for all things Apple. It's okay, just like there are Apple fanboys, there are anti-Apple fanboys. Keep following the trend. As for me, I'll use my iPhone hooked up to my self-built Windows XP gaming system. I understand that it's okay to evaluate products for their pros and cons and buy whatever works the best. I don't hate a company or a product based simply on the company that makes it.
