images.businessweek.com — From extravagant light shows to flawless vocals, the top-grossing tours of 2006 boasted everything a fan could possibly want, from old favorites the Rolling Stones returning to the road, to friendly faces like Madonna, to other performers ranging from country stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill (on tour together) to the theatrical Cirque du Soleil.

Correct."More recent events include Red Hot Chili Peppers, who, at Hyde Park, set a world-wide record for the highest grossing concert at a single venue, in history. It is estimated that 245,000 people saw it over the course of three nights, thus calculating to over 80,000 people per night."Just as an example. They are nowhere in that list.

With tickets being around $200 I'm not surprised

I'd like to know which out of those acts charge the least amount per ticket. I know that DMB tickets sell on average for $40 to $70, a front row seat for $70 is a pretty good deal to see one of the most popular acts around.

They stopped touring a couple of years ago, no?

@AmishRefugee - Dead on! I refuse to pay more than $20 for any show I go to. Which isn't hard when I listen to relatively unknown metal (looks like you do too with the In Flames icon! I love them.)@zmenchini - I agree with you, touring and merchandise is the answer to the piracy problem, but that doesn't mean they have to charge $200 for a ticket.

The best tour of 2006? Radiohead. Tiny venues (3,000-6,000 capacity) and two nights in each city, with an average of 15 out of 23 song variance in setlists between the two nights. Tickets sure were impossible to get, of course. Hundreds of fans sat outside the Greek Theater in LA (or climbed trees behind the venue) in hopes of hearing the show...insanity.
