cbs11tv.com— Good opener: "An Arizona man says sparks from his laptop computer ignited a box of ammunition that caused his truck to..." blow up real good.

It makes me sad that the junior high newspaper I edited ran with better copy than most "real" newspapers these days. (I've edited other publications, but a "serious journalism" outlet having its butt kicked by 12-to-15-year-olds is much more amusing/revolting.)Granted, television newsdroids aren't print journalists, so I can cut CBS 11 a little slack on their application of proper English. "Apple Computers," "i-Book," "smelt," and the apostrophes rub me the wrong way. The big factual error in this piece, though, is inexcusable:"With the demand for laptops increasing the big computer companies are all buying batteries overseas... where safety rules are not always up to U.S. standards."You can't sell them in the U.S. if they fail to meet U.S. standards. Not to mention it's not like the manufacturers are buying batteries from Yi-Jong's Batury Shak -- they're coming from gigantic companies like Sony and LG Chem. And people wonder why alternative newsmedia is becoming more popular.
