Why go through all the trouble of putting a telescope up at the S pole?I know they are trying to avoid light pollution, but wouldn't a Hubble 2.0 be cheaper (and get better pictures) than manning an Antarctic station for the telescope?

Is it actually at the South Pole or is everything in Antarctica considered "South Pole"?

thanks for the info.

Really. I had no idea it would be that cost effective (19M to 1B) to put it a the S pole instead of space.I guess that is why I'm not an astrophysicist. @whattahump - nice catch
