A friend of mine bought one of these only to learn the hard way that multiple disk cases break very easy (at least easier than regular hdd), and lost a HUGE part of his photography portfolio in the way. Indeed, LaCie sucks.
Couldn't agree more. Right now I have two Lacie hard drives (one 400g and one 500g) and one Lacie d2 dvd burner that are functioning purely as sweet paper weights.
Drive probability of failure directly depends on how many platters the hard disk drive contains. Say you have a drive with a single platter with a probability of 0.01 of failure within 5 years (I have no idea what these numbers actually are), and then you decide to make a bigger capacity model with two more platters. If my semester of statistics paid off, the probability of failure will now be 0.03. It now seems logical that the bigger the hard disk drive => more platters => higher probability of failure.

Go home at 2 with a 10, and wake up at 10 with a 2.
