thinkprogress.org — ThinkProgress has the actual letter. "The world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism. To redefine Common Article 3 would add to those doubts. Furthermore, it would put our own troops at risk."

He was never 'pro war'.

Thank god you are keeping the bar low for the US. For a moment there I thought the US would be hindered by having to set an example that its beliefs and ideals of the dignity and rights of people actually work, even when dealing with an enemy, that anything else debases the people of the US as a whole by exposing them as hypocrites about this whole due process and justice s**t. Now all the US needs to be is just a hair better than extremist terrorists to still have 'won'.

Can't wait to see how the whacko conservatives will spin this one... and, you know, there's still plenty of leg room for even more of their insanity... like accusing Powell of eating babies. Haven't heard that one _yet_.come on... you know you want to say it.bring it...

I beleive Powell has said something similar to....that he was trusting the intelligence data he was provided by the administration and presented it believing the administration...but sorta felt betrayed by how the data turned out to be unreliable. But yeah he was always one of the lone people questioning the war...and he was kicked out. While the people that supported the war, messed things up in the war, get awarded and praised.

Don't worry if you dugg me down--so many people misunderstood it obviously wasn't funny. The /sarcasm tag might have helped but if you have to explain a joke it was rarely humorous to begin with. I'll agree with it being increasingly difficult to separate humor from satire. Our current government is a bad Saturday Night Live skit that's gone on 6 years too long.

See, it is statements like this that make me hate the left. Hippocrates. Clinton didn't serve at all, but that's OK because it doesn't matter. Oh wait, Bush was in the military but he received preferential treatment so it doesn't even count as serving. Nixon tries to cover up a break-in which, in and of itself was totally a waste and not necessary, and he resigns. Such an evil bastard. Clinton lies to the grand jury, doesn't matter what the lie was about, he gets on TV and lies to my face and all I hear are excuses and Republican witch hunt.Jimmy Carter gave us double digit inflation, double digit unemployment, and double digit interest rates almost ruining the country. Bush gives us low unemployment, low interest rates and little inflation and the left is yelling about how bad our economy is. Reagan fixed Carter's mess and the left said it was "Voodoo Economics" and it was a short term fix that couldn't last even through his first term. It not only lasted through his first term but his second as well. It was going fine right into Daddy Bush's term until he compromised with the Democrats and signed a tax increase. The largest tax increase in history at the time. The Dems then used his famous "read my lips, no new taxes" statement to oust him from the white house. Clinton was elected and then signed an even larger tax increase. That is all Democrats know how to do is spend. I know, Bush is spending like crazy. It's not that I am against spending money. I am not for socialism in any way. You can't survive without government handouts? Go to the curb and die. I hardly care. Get rid of the government waste and pork bellies and perhaps some of us who are so against social programs wouldn't be so hard-ass about it.My son just entered the work force. He came to me with his first check stub and asked me if it was correct. Twenty five percent of his wages were gone. His mother and I had such a good laugh over that one. I have owned 2 business' in the last 10 years. I grossed 100k in the last one. I worked 14 hours a day, 6 days a week. After taxes, higher electrical rates, phone rates, gas rates, Internet rates, etc. to offset lower rates for those who can't afford normal rates, I was unable to make enough money after 6 years to keep my business open.
