widescreengamer.com — WidescreenGamer.com is discussing something that is becoming a nuissance for owners of the popular Dell 2005FPW widescreen monitor: Image 'Screen Burn' after prolonged periods of use. It's actually not really 'screen burn' at all, and you'll be relieved once you read what we have to say about this phenomenon.

No wonder...it has the word "Dell" on it, so of course it's going to suck.

I have a 23" Apple Cinema Display and started noticed burn-in after about 4 months. It's basically just the edge lines of a program that's open all the time, like a browser. And my dock icons. It occurs only when my desktop is a darker wallpaper and goes away if I turn the monitor off for 10-20 minutes. On lighter backgrounds, no burn-in at all. It can be a little annoying, but since it's not permanent, I don't worry too much. My screensaver is set to a blank screen (black) after 10 minutes. This article basically just calmed my fears about my monitor. Other than this occassional nuisance, my Apple display is the most beautiful monitor I've ever used.

Still only one or two people here address the issue that it isn't the fact that you go into screen saver mode after a certain amount of time. If you are in one program, for 8 hours + a day, regardless of your screen saver settings, you still have areas on that program (bottom, sides, and top/menus) that sit, without movement all day. If I have Max open all day, my view ports are the only "active" segment of that display. The bottom menu stays in one spot, the top menu stays in one spot. Which is where I'm getting my burns.

Glad I didn't buy this monitor... the rule still applies: YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR... Glad my 3 years old 20" widescreen Apple Cinema Display works flawlessly.
