I am currently reading The Sirens of Titan right now. Sadly I was sitting in bed, with the book next to me reading the news on my laptop when I read about his death. I had just put the book down moments ago and thought to myself "I'm really enjoying this one", sad...-kap
I have never felt sad about the death of a celebrity before. I think that Vonnegut has many kindred spirits in those young minds of today and of his time, those who saw the inhumanity of the world and felt helpless to fix it. Vonnegut found a method to do so, in his tales he inspired us to do the big things he could not complete in his lifetime.I am most moved by a quote he gave during a presentation:"I have a message for future generations....please accept our apologies."Kurt Vonnegut[Sometime - sometime]You tried.I don't think he ever realized in his life how hard he was trying, and how tough it can be at times. You went out like Kilgore Trout, you reached the other shore with your legs caked in sludge, but you made it.We'll take it from here.
I've never read any of his books save Slaughterhouse 5 but I mourn the passing of such a great man and find it fitting that I fount out today that he died last night...so it goes.
Then there was a short tribute at the end of the Daily Show episode showing a clip of Vonnegut on the show. Then Colbert introduced the Report by saying "Welcome to the monkey house..." which is a Vonnegut book.

Quoted from TimeQuake, Kilgore Trout's speech at the writer's retreat, I believe.
