democracynow.org — We have a VP actively and continually lying to push war plans and running roughshod over the constitution. If we impeached Bush first, it would leave Cheney as President, and we'd have to do two impeachments. If we leave them unimpeached they'll have 14 months to do more dirty work. They must go now.

And over two years have passed since you, as ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, held the infamous "basement hearings" to investigate that memo. Following the hearings, in which veteran CIA analyst Ray McGovern and former Ambassador Joe Wilson testified, you joined concerned citizens to hand-deliver the signatures of over 120 congressional Democrats and more than half a million citizens demanding a detailed response from the Bush administration to the Downing Street Memo. When the Bush Administration failed to respond, in December 2005 your staff put together the excellent Minority Report, The Constitution in Crisis, which found that "there is a prima facie case that these actions by the President, Vice-President and other members of the Bush Administration violated a number of federal laws" and that "these charges clearly rise to the level of impeachable misconduct."While I commend you for the above efforts, I question why, as the current Chair of the Judiciary, you have since failed to act on the growing list of impeachable offenses by the Bush/Cheney administration, including lying the country into an illegal war, authorizing torture and extraordinary rendition of prisoners, defying international law and the Geneva conventions, violating federal surveillance laws, outing a covert CIA agent and issuing hundreds of "signing statements," not to mention Bush's recent commutation of I. Scooter Libby's sentence and Cheney's outlandish assertion that he is not really part of the Executive branch of government. These illegal actions constitute an assault on the U.S. Constitution, causing damage which even a future administration may be unable to right. The administration's refusal to respect Congress, the separation of powers or the rule of law leaves only one possible recourse: the impeachment and removal of President Bush and Vice President Cheney.Chairman Conyers, you once stated: "I have a choice. I can either stand by and lead my constituents to believe I do not care that the president apparently no longer believes he is bound by any law or code of decency. Or I can act."I am writing to call upon you to act and to uphold the oath you took when you were sworn into office to defend the United States and our Constitution. The current, ongoing crisis compels you to use your assigned powers and take all appropriate steps to defend against these threats to our nation and its system of government by initiating impeachment proceedings against President Bush and Vice President Cheney.

OK, I don't really follow American politics that much, what would impeaching Cheney achieve, why is it worth it?

1. If crimes were committed the criminal needs to be held accountable.2. The world community should know that most US citizens do not support the Neo-Con policies of the Bush administration.3. It should be documented for future generations, so the mistakes of today are never repeated.

Every Digger should know that most presidential administrations take it up the ass from multinational corporations which pay them. Cheney is no different, since the oil companies of America have the top profits following the start of the "War on Terror" (Exxon is at top). Standard Oil was the major impetus behind American opposition to Bolsheviks. Pressure from First National Bank of New York prompted Wilson's intervention in Haiti. U.S owned more of Mexico than Mexico itself, explaining Wilson's repeated invasions of it. Hell, even the United Fruit Company (Chiquita now I believe) owned most of Guatemala. When the democratically elected Arbenz (not even commy) attempts to give the undeveloped lands of United Fruit (12% of it was actually being used...) to the very poor citizens, the U.S covertly deposes him. So, tell me, what is different from then and now? Cheney along with the Bush administration are exploiting the war for the oil companies (multinational corporations). So were many presidents before. I'm a very cynical man- what do you think will happen this time? Freedom wins? Not likely.
