splicetoday.com — There are a few things that may actually go away (fingers crossed) as we turn over a new leaf. 1. Smoking as we know it - Minnesota has passed a law that mandates fire-safe cigarettes as the only type legal for sale... (see the rest of the list)

Well, I hope for the sake of people being able to keep choices that the smoking ban does not go into affect or gets fought in court. Seems like the government wants to make all of our choices for us anymore. I think I know what to do and when to do it!

It sure does amplify it.

Haha, yeah, I had a good laugh when I read that. Those have been around for longer than I've been a smoker, and they don't get to me. Maybe they should buy the redirecting domain splicenineyearsago.com?

Amen, chieffan. BTW, I am a smoker, and at times, you do have to re-light these new cigs; not really a problem, though. I find government intervention into our personal lives more of a problem, and yes, it is a slippery slope. Smoking was an easy target because so many just plain did not like the smell. So they conveniently jumped on the anti-smoking bandwagon. It has even become fashionable and permissible to 'attack' smokers in areas where smoking is allowed. What these people do not understand is that one day, a sacred cow of theirs is going to be 'attacked' and outlawed (in some cases it may already be happening). By then, however, it will be difficult to impossible to stop the nanny state, because the sheeple have already 'given in' on issues like smoking - the precedent has been set. And I will be there to tell them "I told you so".

According to that line of thinking, issaccheriyathu, should we also outlaw sweets? Or coffee? Or how about the catching and eating of fish, because here in Illinois, we're warned they contain mercury. I also have a beef with those who place themselves in danger (mountain climbing, for instance) and get into trouble (many times out of their own stupidity), resulting in others placing their own lives in peril in order to perform dangerous rescues.Point is, how far do you want to take it; what should be outlawed and who should decide.
