boingboing.net — Thirty years ago, the "going out to play" culture coexisted with other culturally sanctioned forms of independence for even very young children: Kids as young as 6 used to walk to school on their own, for instance, or take public buses or -- gulp -- subways.

Good suggestion. Another author is Eckhart Tolle. He talks about the acceleration of the collective egoic mind state which is dominated by fear. The ego perceives the world as alien and hostile. The way to be free of this condition is to learn to be present in the moment and not in the compulsive thinking mind which thrives in a very conditioned interpretation of past and future. This fearful conditioning is both collective and individual. Sure, the MSM has a part in this, but also take responsibility for your own mental state. Turn off the news. Fear sells. Also learn to recognize fearful emotions within and learn to transmute those fears into being rooted in reality and not fantasy. The fear is just emotional energy that can feed the ego, if you are not skilled in being in the 'present moment.'

you know that your genes are unique (they are different than your mother's, father's, sister or brother) and only if YOU have kids you pass your genes to the next generation. If you don't have kids, your line will end - genetic suicide.

In Japan it always freaked me out to see elementary school kids just rolling around town. With the public transportation systems, there arent really any school busses, and they will stop by the mall or the video game store on the way. Even with the big pedo problem there, they found a way to keep their kids safe, why cant we?
